Hand-Selected Lightning Ridge Black Opal Rough
This is a hand-selected parcel of bright Lightning Ridge Black Opal Rough.
There are two big pieces of blue fire crystal opal rough on black. One piece has some brown potch over the blue crystal and the other (arrow-shaped) has a heel piece with bright green fire that should be sawn away.
There are two bright green and blue/green fire crystal opals (one backed by porous mudstone) that will require some careful planning and cutting for to produce maximum yield. The smaller piece might best be sawn to produce a couple of matched finished opals.
There is one big piece of crystal opal rough with a bright harlequin-like fire pattern but be warned - the fire is directional and there are inclusions/voids in this piece of opal. (If it were a little better there is no way it would be for sale here!) If you are skillful and brave you can try cutting it but it might be better lightly polished and left as a specimen.
The last piece is a bright blue-green fire black opal that should result in a very good finished opal gemstone.
The parcel weighs 0.50 oz with 7 pieces. The largest 2 pieces measure 28 x 16 x 11 mm and 26 x 17 x 13 mm. The smallest piece measures 13 x 11 x 7 mm. This is an excellent parcel of black opal rough for someone looking to make some larger good-quality finished opal gemstones.
All of these pieces will create beautiful finished black opal gemstones. This parcel of rough black opal has been hand-picked for ease of cutting and fire but this parcel will require a bit more skill than the other similar parcels. The rough opal appears to be fossilized wood and plant material.
Note: This black opal rough was photographed wet sitting in a puddle but it is not *under* water. Beware of sites that photograph their opals immersed in water as the opal looks much better that way but it does not mean the cut stones will look that way!
