Bi-Colour Tourmaline Crystal Specimen from Afghanistan

Afghan Tourmaline is rare as it's both difficult to obtain due to the problems in the country and because the traders tend to hang on to it. These pieces will continue to be rarities as it's so difficult to source new rough.

This crystal changes from steel blue (indicolite) at the terminated tip to light sea-green at the root. The junction between the colour change from blue to green is quite abrupt, and the green continues to gradually lighten to the end.

The middle portion of the crystal is clean and would facet nicely, however it seems a shame to destroy such a specimen for this purpose.
