Bright Blue Sapphire Facet Rough

This is a piece of glassy bright Blue Sapphire faceting rough. It is a very clean piece with no internal flaws. This sapphire crystal has some colour zoning and the colour changes from bright blue to steel blue depending on orientation. The colour is best on the c-axis. The rough exterior will grind away easily to leave a clean stone. The last photo shows the piece viewed from the top (looking down from the top of the first photo).

The sapphire measures 6.7 x. 5.5 x 4.0 mm and weighs 1.76 carats. It would best be cut as an oval or modified cushion with the pavilion taking advantage of the existing angle.

The locality and treatment of this sapphire facet rough is unknown but it is assumed to have been heated.
